It provides an affirming and accepting ‘space’ for LGBT photographers and an opportunity for community service, such as recording local LGBT history, or providing same gender couples with portrait services. Plus many more reasons.

Yes. While Digital SLR cameras are becoming increasingly affordable and are recommended, a regular point and shoot camera will work also (the pictures just won’t be as nice from a technical perspective.) High end Point and Shoot cameras are offering increasingly good quality with each passing year. For camera purchase advice, come to a meeting.

Yes. Contact us and we will see if we can arrange carpooling to meetings. Additionally, there is public transportation available now to the NC Music Factory, which is where the LGBT Community Center is located.

The club is a program of the LGBT Community Center of Charlotte, which has a non-profit status from the IRS. Therefore, donations to the Center on behalf of the club may be tax deductible. Please consult your tax advisor.

Each year, the club will solicit work from members for a judged (but non-juried) gallery exhibit at The Center. Members may elect to make their work available for sale (and this is encouraged) and The Center will receive a portion of each sale. Further details will be determined by the club members.

At the beginning of the meeting, there is a social, where folks will get to know each other. We will then move into a short business meeting, followed by a program. After the program, members may show off their latest work to the club and receive feedback on how to improve the work. Members should offer constructive, and polite criticism. In addition, members may ask for equipment advice and also mention any used equipment they may have for sale.
